Temple of Artemis - Sardes

The fourth largest Ionic temple in the ancient world, located in the ruins of Sardis, capital of ancient Lydia in western Turkey. Construction began in the Hellenistic period around 300 BC and was significantly reworked under Emperor Hadrian in the mid-2nd century AD, when the cella was divided into chambers for both Artemis and the Imperial cult. The pseudodipteros temple measures approximately 44.6 by 97.6 metres with eight columns on each end. Only two of the original columns remained standing by 1907.
