Mausoleum at Halicarnassus

The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was a grand tomb built between 353 and 351 BC in Halicarnassus (modern Bodrum, Turkey) for Mausolus, a Carian satrap of the Achaemenid Empire, and his sister-wife Artemisia II [1]. Designed by the Greek architects Satyros of Paros and Pythius of Priene, its elevated tomb structure derived from the tombs of neighbouring Lycia, a territory Mausolus had invaded and annexed around 360 BC, such as the Nereid Monument [1].
