Rock Shelter of Solhapa

A prehistoric rock shelter in Duas Igrejas, Miranda do Douro, Portugal, within the International Douro Natural Park. A huge granite slab has protected Bronze Age engravings of geometric and human shapes for thousands of years. The cover of the grotto bears an engraving interpreted as representing a sorcerer, similar to examples found in Spain and France. The human figure has a trapezoidal head ending in points resembling branches, with lines at the waist suggesting a tail and erect phallus.
