Khapia

Khapia (Cerro Khapia) is a possibly extinct volcano at 4,809 metres in Peru's Puno Region, near Lake Titicaca. Venerated by local communities as an Apu (sacred mountain in Andean indigenous culture), the mountain hosts a prehispanic archaeological site on its slopes. In 2011, Khapia and its archaeological remains were declared Patrimonio Cultural (National Cultural Heritage) of Peru and designated a Landscape Reserve by resolution No. 589-2011-VMPCIC-MC of the Vice Ministry of Culture.
