Kenko, Puno

Kenko (Q'inq'u) is an archaeological site in the Acora District, Puno Region of Peru, at approximately 4,000 meters elevation. The site contains four chullpas (above-ground burial towers) -- two circular and two quadrangular -- attributed to the Lupaca culture and dating to around 1300 AD during the Late Intermediate period. It forms part of the broader Molloko archaeological complex, where recent excavations uncovered evidence of cultural fusion between Inca and Lupaca peoples. The site was declared a National Cultural Heritage of Peru by the National Institute of Culture.
