Mawk'allaqta, Melgar

Mawk'allaqta (Quechua: mawk'a "ancient" + llaqta "place") is an archaeological site in the Nunoa District, Melgar Province, Puno Region of southern Peru. The site was declared a National Cultural Heritage (Patrimonio Cultural) of Peru by the National Institute of Culture. It is one of at least six sites bearing the name Mawk'allaqta across Peru's highland regions, reflecting the Quechua naming convention for ancient settlements.
