Inca Uyo

An archaeological site at Chucuito on the shores of Lake Titicaca, Peru, about 18 km from Puno, known as the "Temple of Fertility". The walled rectangular enclosure contains approximately 86 carved mushroom-shaped stones, some pointing upward toward Inti (the sun god) and others downward toward Pachamama (the earth goddess). First excavated in 1950 by Harry and Marion Tschopik, who described the structures as built in "Inca style". However, the site's authenticity is debated: researchers confirmed the stones are ancient but many were found scattered in the village and may have been placed in the enclosure relatively recently.
