Tanqa Tanqa

Tanqa Tanqa is a major archaeological pukara (fortified hilltop settlement) of the Lupaca culture, located approximately 15 km southwest of Zepita in Puno Region, Peru, at an elevation of 3,974 m. Dating to the Late Intermediate Period (AD 1000-1450), it emerged after the collapse of the Tiwanaku civilization. The site covers roughly 30 hectares and features multiple concentric dry-stone walls enclosing a central plaza, circular domestic structures, chullpas (funerary towers), and agricultural terraces. It was declared part of Peru's National Cultural Heritage on 17 July 2001.
