Inka Tampu, Huayopata

An Inca archaeological site in Peru's Cusco Region, La Convencion Province, Huayopata District, at approximately 2,127 m elevation. The name means "Inca inn" in Quechua, identifying it as a tambo -- a roadside rest stop along the extensive Inca road system. These tambos provided lodging for travelers, messengers, and armies, while storing food and supplies critical to imperial communications and logistics. Its location in the Cusco Region, heartland of the Inca Empire, suggests it played a key role connecting the capital with outlying provinces.
