Ingatambo

A Formative Period ceremonial center on a natural plateau at 1,066 m elevation in the Huancabamba Valley, Jaen Province, Cajamarca Region, Peru. Excavations led by Atsushi Yamamoto since 2006 identified two main phases: the Pomahuaca Phase (1200-800 BC) and the Ingatambo Phase (800-550 BC), with evidence of increasingly complex architecture and restricted-access enclosures. The site functioned as a gateway community facilitating interregional exchange, with cultural ties to highland centers like Pacopampa and Kuntur Wasi. Later occupations show Chimu and Inca presence.
