Purunllacta, Soloco

Purunllacta de Soloco is a Chachapoyas culture archaeological site in the Amazonas Region of Peru, at 2,407 meters elevation. Dating to AD 1100-1300, the fortified five-hectare complex contains square, circular, and rectangular stone structures with geometric decorative motifs. The site functioned as a fortress with stone walls and narrow entrances, housing 1,200-1,500 people at its peak. In 2014, archaeologists discovered a cache of sixteenth-century silver aquillas (ceremonial vessels) within a Chachapoya household.
