Jamrud Fort

Jamrud Fort, also known as Fatehgarh, stands at the eastern entrance to the Khyber Pass near Peshawar, Pakistan. Built in 1836 by Sikh general Hari Singh Nalwa with 3-metre-thick walls, it was completed in just 54 days and named to commemorate a Sikh victory over local tribes. The fort saw the Battle of Jamrud in April 1837, where Nalwa fell defending it against Afghan forces. It later served as a British frontier outpost during the Second Afghan War (1878-79) and the Tirah campaign (1897-98).
