Teotihuacan - Pyramid of the Sun

The Pyramid of the Sun is the largest structure at Teotihuacan, rising 66 meters above ground level with a base measuring roughly 220 by 230 meters, constructed from approximately 765,000 cubic metres of material including volcanic rock. Built around 100 CE, it dominates the east side of the Avenue of the Dead. Underground cave and tunnel systems were discovered in the early 1970s, and a 2011 excavation revealed caches containing pottery, obsidian, greenstone figurines, and a greenstone mask. A 1905-1910 restoration controversially added a fifth terrace and removed original facing stones.
