Teotihuacan - Temple of Quetzalcoatl

The Temple of the Feathered Serpent is the third largest pyramid at Teotihuacan, located within the Ciudadela complex at the south end of the Avenue of the Dead. Built between 150 and 200 CE in the talud-tablero style, the facade features 260 projecting serpent heads representing the days of the Mesoamerican divinatory calendar. Over 200 sacrificial warriors were buried beneath the structure during its consecration. Archaeologists later discovered an 1,800-year-old tunnel system with galleries 12 meters below, interpreted as a cosmic shrine rather than elite burial site.
