Teotihuacan - Pyramid of the Moon

Built between 1-500 AD, the Pyramid of the Moon is the second-largest pyramid in Teotihuacan, after the Pyramid of the Sun[1]. Located in modern-day San Martín de las Pirámides, Mexico, it dominates the northern end of the Avenue of the Dead[1]. The pyramid's design mimics the silhouette of the mountain Cerro Gordo, which may have been called Tenan, meaning "mother or protective stone" in Nahuatl[1]. Archaeological excavations have revealed that the current structure covers an earlier monument predating the Pyramid of the Sun, which was built before 200 AD[1].
