Chicanná was a Maya city that flourished during the Classic period [1] [2]. The site takes its name from Structure II, whose Maya name translates as "House of the Serpent Mouth"—chi (mouth), can (serpent), ná (house) [1]. It is located two kilometers west of Becán within the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve in Campeche, Mexico [1]. The settlement is notable for its elaborate architectural sculptures featuring distinctive serpent-mouth motifs [1] [2].
