The Timpone della Motta is a hill 2 km southwest of Francavilla Marittima in Calabria, Italy, inhabited since the Middle Bronze Age [1]. During the Iron Age it hosted an Oenotrian settlement, which was later influenced by Greek colonists from nearby Sybaris [1]. In the second half of the seventh century BC, Greeks took over the site and transformed it into their acropolis and an important sanctuary, notable as the location of the first known ancient Greek temples of Magna Graecia on the Italian Peninsula [1].
