Ancient City of Blanda

An ancient Lucanian city, later known as Blanda Julia, located at Palecastro di Tortora in Calabria, Italy. Mentioned by Livy as a city conquered by Fabius Maximus from Carthaginian control in 214 BC. After earthquake damage around 70 BC, the Romans rebuilt it with a forum, basilica, and three temples to the Capitoline Triad on an orthogonal street plan. Elevated to municipium under Augustus, who added the honorific "Julia" to its name. The city was abandoned in the 5th century AD, possibly destroyed by Vandals.
