Tauriana

Tauriana is an ancient Bruttii city in southern Calabria, Italy, now preserved as the Archaeological Park of Tauriani in Palmi. Excavations since 1995 revealed Bronze Age huts dating back 4,000 years alongside the urban installations of the Bruttian and Roman city spanning the 4th century BC to 4th century AD. Key structures include a Mosaic House, an Urban Shrine, and an amphitheatre for gladiator fights seating 3,000 spectators. The city was destroyed by Saracens in the mid-10th century. It also houses the crypt of Saint Fantino the Elder, considered the oldest Catholic place of worship in the region.
