Monte Adranone

Monte Adranone is a mountain (900 m elevation) in Sambuca di Sicilia, Province of Agrigento, Sicily, bearing remains of the ancient Greek city of Adranon. Settled in the early 5th century BC as a colony of Selinunte, the city came under Punic influence from the 4th century BC and was destroyed by Rome in 250 BC. The city walls extend over 6 km, with a fortified acropolis, artisans' quarter, and a sanctuary with temenos. The necropolis features the monumental Tomba della Regina, and excavations have yielded Attic pottery, votive terracottas, and bronze artifacts.
