Western Wall

A portion of the ancient limestone retaining wall in Jerusalem's Old City, built by Herod the Great around 19 BC as part of his massive expansion of the Temple Mount platform. The wall extends approximately 488m in total length, though only 57m remain visible at the Western Wall Plaza today. Stones were precisely cut and placed without mortar, with some weighing tens of tons. After the Roman destruction of the Second Temple in 70 AD, the wall became Judaism's holiest prayer site, symbolizing the enduring connection to the Temple.
