Atlit Yam is a submerged Pre-Pottery Neolithic C (PPNC) village located 300-400 meters off the modern coast of Atlit, Israel. Carbon-dated to 6900-6300 BC (8,900-8,300 years ago), it represents the earliest known evidence for a community combining pastoralism, agriculture, and fishing on the Levantine coast [1]. As of 2004, it remains the only marine archaeological site in the Mediterranean containing in situ human burials [1].
