Babylonian Theatre

A Greek-style theatre built in Babylon during the era of Alexander the Great, around 330 BC, serving as a political assembly point for the Greek community (politai). It features a south-facing orchestra, tiered rows, proedria (honor seats), and a stage building. A 2nd-century CE Greek inscription records repairs by one Dioskourides, demonstrating the persistence of Hellenistic culture centuries after Alexander. The theatre functioned as the center of Greek civic life through the Seleucid and Parthian periods.
