The White Obelisk is a large stone monument unearthed at Nineveh in northern Iraq by British Assyrian archaeologist Hormuzd Rassam in 1853 [1]. It is one of only two intact Assyrian obelisks to survive, the other being the Black Obelisk of Shalmaneser III [1]. Both monuments are now housed in the British Museum [1]. The White Obelisk dates to the early Neo-Assyrian Empire and may have been erected during the reign of Ashurnasirpal I, Tiglath-Pileser II, or Ashurnasirpal II [1].
