Ixkun Mayan Arqueológico Site

A major Maya archaeological site in the Peten Department of Guatemala, 6.5 km north of Dolores, occupied from the Preclassic through the Postclassic period [1] [2]. The site contains 51 architectural groups including temples, a ballcourt, an E-Group complex, and an acropolis [1]. Stela 1, erected in AD 790, is 4.13 m high [1]. Alfred Maudslay's 1887 excavation of the site was one of the earliest formal archaeological investigations in the Maya Lowlands [1] [2].
