The Pythagoreion is the archaeological site of the ancient city of Samos on the island of Samos, Greece, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992 alongside the Heraion sanctuary. A dominant naval and commercial power in the 6th century BC, the city boasted the first artificial harbor with a built waterfront. Its most celebrated feature is the Tunnel of Eupalinos, a 1,036 m underground aqueduct designed by Eupalinos of Megara in the 6th century BC, excavated from both ends with remarkable precision. The site preserves Greek and Roman monuments, ancient fortifications, and the Heraion -- a major sanctuary of Hera with worldwide influence.
