Rhodes Footbridge

The Rhodes Footbridge is an ancient Greek arch bridge in the city of Rhodes, dating to the 4th century BC or early Hellenistic period. It represents the oldest known Greek bridge constructed with a voussoir arch, where wedge-shaped stones distribute weight to maintain structural integrity. The bridge was unearthed in 1966-67 near the eastern harbour at Akandia Bay, where an artificial channel ran parallel to the ancient city walls. Its discovery demonstrates early Greek mastery of arch construction techniques that predated the more celebrated Roman arch bridges.
