Temple of Athena Lindia

A major Pan-Hellenic sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Athena, perched atop the 116-metre-high Acropolis of Lindos on the eastern coast of Rhodes. Originally built in the 6th century BC under Cleobulus, one of the Seven Sages of Greece, the temple burned down in 350 BC and was rebuilt in the 4th century in Doric style with distinctive isodomic masonry and white marble. Even Alexander the Great offered sacrifices here, underscoring its significance across the ancient Greek world. Excavated by Italian archaeologists between 1910 and 1932.
