One of three ancient Doric city-states on the island of Rhodes, Greece, with its acropolis on Filerimos hill. Archaeological evidence reveals Minoan remains at nearby Trianda and Mycenaean cemeteries dating to 1700-1400 BC. The site preserves a Temple of Athena Polias from the 3rd-2nd century BC built atop a 5th-century BC foundation, plus a 4th-century BC Doric fountain house with underground channels and lion-head spouts. In 408 BC, Ialysus joined with Lindos and Kamiros to found the city of Rhodes, after which it declined into a village. The site was extensively excavated by the Italian Archaeological School in the early 20th century.
