Pavlopetri, located in Vatika Bay off the coast of southern Laconia, Peloponnese, Greece, is the oldest known submerged city in the world, dating to approximately 2800 BC. Discovered in 1967 by Nicholas Flemming and mapped by Cambridge archaeologists in 1968, it features an almost complete town plan with streets, buildings, and tombs submerged in 3-4 metres of water. The city included two-storey houses, temples, a cemetery, and a complex water management system. It was submerged around 1000 BC after a series of earthquakes.
