Asine

An ancient Greek city on the coast of the Argolid, mentioned by Homer in the Iliad as subject to Diomedes of Argos [1]. Habitation spans from the Neolithic through the Bronze Age and into the Early Iron Age [2]. Swedish Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf initiated excavations in 1922, making Asine Sweden's first major fieldwork in Greece [2]. The Barbouna hill yielded a Mycenaean cemetery (c. 1600-1100 BC) with chamber tombs [1] [2].
