Ancient Theatre of Thassos

The Ancient Theatre of Thassos is located at the northeastern end of the ancient city, built into a natural cavity of the hill in the Limena area. The oldest construction phase dates to the beginning of the Hellenistic period, with part of the theater resting against the ancient city wall [1][2]. The theater was carved into the hillside and could accommodate thousands of spectators. Recent restoration work has reconstructed the cavea and stage areas using the world-famous pale white marble from Thassos' quarries [3].
