Hitzacker Archaeological Centre

The Hitzacker Archaeological Centre is an open-air museum in Lower Saxony, Germany, and the first museum in Germany dedicated exclusively to the Bronze Age. It was founded in 1990 after ceramic shards and building floor plans were first discovered during construction at Lake Hitzacker in 1969, with planned excavations following in 1987. The museum features reconstructed Bronze Age longhouses combining livestock stalls and living quarters, a burial hut, and a pit-house based on local archaeological finds. Visitors can participate in activities such as bronze casting, bread baking, fire striking, and textile work.
