Thorsberg Moor

Thorsberg Moor is a peat bog in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, where the Angle tribe deposited votive offerings for approximately four centuries. The site has yielded extraordinary artifacts including the Thorsberg chape—an early Elder Futhark runic inscription—a Roman helmet, a shield buckle, and one of the earliest known examples of socks in Europe. Archaeological finds from this site are considered comparable in importance to those from Illerup and Vimose in Denmark.
