White Barrow

White Barrow is a Neolithic long barrow on Copehill Down, Salisbury Plain, south of Tilshead in Wiltshire, dating to approximately 4000-3500 BC. It measures about 77.5m long and 47m wide and was the first ancient monument purchased by the National Trust in 1909, acquired for 60 pounds to protect it from War Office land purchases. A 1997 geophysical survey by English Heritage revealed a possible burial chamber or mortuary cairn inside, along with post pits at its eastern end. In 1998, badgers that had burrowed into the barrow were relocated and the monument was covered with chain-link fencing for protection.
