Bluestonehenge

Bluestonehenge (West Amesbury Henge) is a prehistoric stone circle discovered in 2009 by Mike Parker Pearson's Stonehenge Riverside Project, located where the Stonehenge Avenue meets the River Avon. Excavations revealed nine stone holes suggesting a circle of approximately 25 Welsh bluestones within a 25-metre ditched enclosure. The circle was likely constructed around 3000 BC, with the surrounding henge ditch dating to c.2400 BC. Parker Pearson proposed that these bluestones were later removed and incorporated into Stonehenge during its major remodeling phase around 2500 BC. The site formed part of a ceremonial route linking Durrington Walls to Stonehenge along the River Avon.
