Shinewater

A Late Bronze Age settlement discovered in 1995 during clearing of Hydneye lake in Eastbourne, East Sussex, England. The site includes a timber platform extending over 200 sq m, built of large oak posts up to 2.6 m long set into clay, supporting layers of oak and coppiced hazel rods. A trackway of three rows of vertical oak posts leads westward toward higher ground. The nationally important Scheduled Monument was found during flood alleviation work, with a 50 m platform section discovered first, followed by a 60 m trackway section the next year.
