Frankenbury Camp

Frankenbury Camp is an Iron Age univallate hillfort on the northwestern edge of the New Forest in Hampshire, and the largest Iron Age hillfort in the New Forest area. The fort encloses approximately 4.4 hectares (11 acres) on a slight promontory overlooking the Avon Valley, with very steep natural slopes defending the west and south sides, while the northeast is protected by a rampart and ditch. Classified by Historic England as a 'slight univallate hillfort' dating from c. 700 BC to AD 43, such sites are relatively rare nationally with only around 150 examples recorded. It is a scheduled ancient monument (no. 122).
