Comagena

Comagena was a Roman cavalry fort (ala) established in the 1st century AD on the Danube at modern Tulln in Lower Austria, serving as a key defensive position along the Norican frontier[1]. The fort housed an ala of up to 500 cavalry troops (I Commagenorum) and controlled a strategically important river ford across the Danube[1]. Located at Marc-Aurel-Park and the former Landeskrankenhaus area, the northern section was destroyed by Danube erosion[2]. Since 2021, the site has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Danube Limes[2].
