Celtic Settlement, Sandberg

The Sandberg is a hill ridge in the northwestern Weinviertel region of Lower Austria, approximately 70 km north of Vienna[1]. It represents one of the most significant archaeological sites of the middle La Tène culture in Central Europe[1]. Unlike typical Celtic oppida, this settlement was unfortified, yet evidence indicates it was exceptionally large and prosperous[1]. The site functioned as a powerful center for trade, culture, religion, and political influence, bridging southern Bohemia with the Danube valley[1]. Its inhabitants are believed to have been Boii or part of a Celtic tribe under their direct influence[1].
