Mes Aynak

Mes Aynak is a major Buddhist settlement located 40 km southeast of Kabul in Logar Province, Afghanistan.[1] The site features a vast complex of Buddhist monasteries, homes, over 400 Buddha statues, stupas, and market areas.[2] Beneath the Buddhist layer, archaeologists discovered a 5,000-year-old Bronze Age site dating to approximately 3000 BC.[2] The site also sits atop Afghanistan's largest copper deposit.[1]
