Ai-Khanoum is the archaeological site of a Hellenistic city in Takhar Province, Afghanistan. Founded between 300 and 285 BC, it served as a major military and economic centre of the Greco-Bactrian Kingdom [1]. The city was destroyed around 145 BC [1]. Rediscovered in 1961, the ruins were excavated from 1965 to 1978 [2].
