A Cycladic Bronze Age settlement on Santorini, Greece, associated with Minoan civilization through Linear A inscriptions and artistic parallels. First inhabited in the 5th millennium BC as a fishing village, it grew into a major Mediterranean trade hub by 3000 BC. The Theran eruption of the 16th century BC buried the city in volcanic ash, preserving multi-storey buildings, advanced drainage systems, and vivid frescoes depicting marine life and rituals. Excavated since 1967, it is often called a Minoan Pompeii.
