Maiden Castle is an Iron Age settlement in Grinton, North Yorkshire, dating from approximately 1500-500 BC. The pear-shaped enclosure measures 108 by 88 metres, covering about 7,000 square metres. Listed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, the name 'Maiden Castle' occurs at several sites across Britain and likely means a fortification that appears impregnable or has never been taken in battle.
