Balcon de Montezuma

Late Classic (600-900 CE) farming village located 18 km south of Ciudad Victoria in the Sierra Madre Oriental of Tamaulipas, Mexico, at 1,200 m elevation. The site comprises over 70 circular limestone platforms of varying diameters grouped into two semi-circular plazas. Each base supported palm-roofed houses with bajareque walls, and the dead were buried beneath the floors. The site played a role on Huastec trading routes and was explored and restored in 1989-1990 by archaeologist Jesus Narez.
