Cañada de la Virgen

Canada de la Virgen is an Otomi archaeological site in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico, occupied from approximately 540 to 1050 AD. Construction likely began after the collapse of Teotihuacan around 530 AD. The site contains three main complexes, with Complex A, the 'House of the Thirteen Heavens,' featuring a 16-metre pyramid aligned with solar and celestial events. The plateau was artificially tilted 18 degrees to track the sun's passage for agricultural calendars. Declared a national archaeological monument by INAH in September 2022, it was first excavated in 1995 and opened to the public in 2011.
