Carsington Roman Villa

The Carsington Roman Villa is a Roman villa complex at Scow Brook, Carsington near Wirksworth, Derbyshire, England[1]. The site is now submerged beneath Carsington Water reservoir[2]. Excavations revealed a large villa complex comprising a main house measuring 28 meters by 9 meters (approximately 252 square meters), a bathhouse, a courtyard, and several outbuildings[2]. Roman material including pottery, tiles, tegulae, imbrices, flue tiles, and hypocaust material was discovered in 1964, with large quantities of Roman tile, pottery, and coins found before 1974[3]. The villa would have been located along the upper valley of the Scow Brook before being flooded[2].
