Tepe Sardar is an ancient Buddhist monastery complex in central Afghanistan, situated on a hill overlooking the Dasht-i Manara plain near Ghazni[1]. The site reveals two distinct artistic phases: an early Hellenistic period from the 3rd to 6th century CE, followed by a Sinicized-Indian phase from the 7th to 9th century CE[1]. The earliest sanctuary was constructed around the 3rd century AD[1]. The complex features massive carved stone pillars and devotional cells, representing the spread of Buddhist art and architecture into Central Asia[1]. Archaeological evidence suggests the monastery flourished as a major religious center along ancient trade routes connecting India, China, and the Mediterranean[1].
