San Claudio is a Maya archaeological site in the municipality of Tenosique, Tabasco, Mexico, situated in the transition zone between the Guatemalan Petén highlands and the Gulf of Mexico coastal plain [1]. Dating to the Classic period (500 BC - 900 AD), the site was a specialized village focused on flint quarrying and tool production, exploiting nearby high-quality flint sources [1]. Excavations have uncovered over 90 structures, though only a handful have been explored [1]. Notably, the settlement lacks the monumental architecture typical of major Maya political or religious centers, representing instead a specialized agricultural and craft production community [1]. The site is located in the San Pedro Mártir River sub-basin in southeastern Tabasco [1].
