America's Stonehenge

A controversial archaeological site spread across 12 hectares in Salem, New Hampshire, formerly known as Mystery Hill. It consists of stone chambers, standing stones, walls, and a large flat stone sometimes called the "sacrificial table". Several upright stones align with solstice and equinox events. Radiocarbon dating of charcoal indicates human activity on the hilltop roughly 4,000 years ago, likely representing Native American occupation. However, archaeologists widely believe that much of the visible site was constructed or rearranged by owner William Goodwin after he purchased the property in 1937.
